Making and tinkering can motivate and inspire young people to excel in STEM subjects and prepare them for careers in design, manufacturing and entrepreneurship. Many students never get the opportunity to 'make', take apart or construct at home. I believe that education has an obligation to expose students to creative hands-on experiences while building their problem solving skills and 'making' self-esteem. Furthermore, not all students excel in our standard academic environments and these hands-on tools may provide them with that much needed opportunity to apply and create.
